Returning soldiers and their families face unique challenges transitioning from the front lines to civilian life. Long Island Cares is here to help veterans in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, addressing financial hardships and food insecurity during this crucial period.

Military Appreciation Tuesdays

  • Weekly sessions at Long Island Cares First Stop Food Pantries.
  • Provides veterans and families with essential items like food, personal care products, household supplies, and more.
  • Offers veteran-specific benefit information.

Veterans Mobile Pantry

  • Nutritious groceries are delivered to homebound and disabled veterans.
  • Ensures support for those who can’t visit pantries in person.
  • Biweekly deliveries and eligibility assessment.

VetsWork

  • Equips veterans with job skills.
  • Covers resume writing, job search, and real workplace experience.
  • Volunteering and training opportunities.

Community Outreach Initiatives

  • Collaborations with veteran service agencies and VA hospitals.
  • Participation in events like Veteran Stand Downs.
  • Extending services to counseling, homeless outreach, and emergency assistance.

Care Coordination Program
