Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank has been on a mission to feed Long Islanders facing food insecurity and address its root causes since our founding by the late Harry Chapin in 1980.

Long Island Cares’ Annual 5K & Paws Walk
Run Together. Walk Together. Support Together.
Grab your running shoes, bring your four-legged friend, and join us for Long Island Cares’ Annual 5K & Paws Walk at the beautiful Belmont Lake State Park! Whether you’re running for a new 5K personal record, strolling with family and friends, or bringing your pup along for the adventure, this pet-friendly charity event is a great way to enjoy the day.
What to Expect
- 5K Fun Run/Walk through a scenic, pet-friendly route
- Photo ops and wagging tails around every bend, your pets are the star of the show!
- Pet & people raffle prizes—donate a non-perishable pet or human food item for a chance to win!
- Light breakfast to fuel you while you keep up with your fluffy pal
- Community celebration that brings together animal lovers, fitness fans, and compassionate neighbors
Why We Walk
Every step you take helps feed pets in need and the people who love them. All proceeds support Long Island Cares’ Pet Pantry and hunger relief programs that serve both two-legged and four-legged members of our community.

Those are the words Geri shared when talking about Long Island Cares’ Baxter’s Pet Pantry. Because of the support she receives through the pantry, Geri is able to keep her beloved dogs healthy, fed, and cared for during difficult times.
Registering for the 5K & Paws Walk, helps provide food and essential supplies to families like Geri’s while keeping pets healthy, happy, and at home where they belong.
