Veterans Project
Giving Back to our Veterans
Returning soldiers and their families face unique challenges transitioning from the front lines to civilian life. Long Island Cares is here to help veterans in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, addressing food insecurity during this crucial period with the Veterans Project.

Military Appreciation Tuesdays
- Weekly sessions at Long Island Cares First Stop Food Pantries.
- Provides veterans and families with essential items like food, personal care products, household supplies, and more.
- Offers veteran-specific benefit information.
Information & Referral Services
- Dedicated referral program connecting veterans to essential benefits and services.
- Leverages a network of veteran service organizations.
- Advocates for veterans’ needs and connections.
Veterans Outreach
- Collaborations with veteran service agencies and VA hospitals.
- Participation in events like Veteran Stand Downs.
- Extending services to counseling, homeless outreach, and emergency assistance.
