As the year comes to a close, we reflect on the families we’ve had the privilege to serve at Long Island Cares, and the reality is that the need remains urgent.
Take Tamira, a single mother of two. This year, she faced a chronic illness that made it difficult to work and cover even the most basic expenses. Like so many families on Long Island, she had to make impossible choices: pay the rent, buy medicine, or put food on the table for her children. Through our network of food pantries and programs, Tamira was able to provide her family with nutritious meals, giving her children the energy and stability to focus on school and thrive at home.
Tamira’s story is not unique. Every day, thousands of neighbors turn to Long Island Cares for help. Seniors living on fixed incomes, families juggling multiple jobs, and children who depend on school meals all rely on the support of our community to get through challenging times.
This holiday season, you can be a part of changing lives. Just $10 provides six meals—six warm breakfasts, lunches, or dinners—for a neighbor in need. That small gift can mean the difference between a child going to bed hungry or having a full plate and a hopeful smile.
Every dollar brings more than just food. It brings hope, security, and a sense of belonging to our neighbors who need it most.
As we close 2025, we invite you to make a lasting impact. By giving today, you join a community of caring individuals who refuse to let hunger define our neighbors’ lives. Together, we can end the year on a note of generosity and action, making sure every Long Islander has the meals they need and the support they deserve.
