Long Island Cares, founded in 1980 by singer-songwriter and activist Harry Chapin, is Long Island’s first food bank. Our mission is to combat hunger and food insecurity across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
As a proud partner food bank of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief network, we stand alongside nearly 200 food banks working to provide essential food and resources to those in need.
What started as a small effort serving a handful of agencies has grown into a vital community resource. Today, we distribute over 14 million pounds of food and supplies each year to nearly 400 partner agencies—operating from our main office and warehouse in Hauppauge, along with 7 Long Island Cares operated Food Pantries across Long Island.
Together, we can make a difference.
