Keeping Kids Fed Over the Summer

Summer Food Service Program

Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Break

As summer arrives with its beach outings, BBQs, and fun, it also brings worry for the 65,000 food-insecure kids on Long Island. Many rely on Free and Reduced Meals during the school year, but these programs disappear in the Summer, leaving them uncertain about their next meal.

That’s where Long Island Cares steps in with the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). A program dedicated to providing nutritious breakfast and lunch throughout the summer at both camps and open sites to help ensure that low-income children continue to receive meals when school is out of session.

Below is a list of Long Island Cares’ sites open to the public.  If you want to find a location for free meals near you, text your zip code to 304-304.
