HAUPPAUGE, New York – April 12, 2021

Long Island Cares received a $5,000 grant from Investors Foundation in response to the increased demand for emergency food brought on by the pandemic.  The grant will help further Long Island Cares mission, enabling them to make additional food purchases for residents living on the East End of Long Island.  Long Island Cares opened its fifth community based satellite and emergency food distribution center in Hampton Bays in March of 2020 at the height of the pandemic.  The location features a First Stop Triage Pantry and Baxter’s Pet Pantry.  Many residents living on the East End of Long Island work in seasonal positions and industries like hospitality, agriculture, and trade industries, all of which have been negatively impacted by the pandemic creating furloughs, layoffs, and job losses.  Since its opening in March of 2020, the satellite has served 14,795 people and has given out 97,420 meals.
