During the school year, Long Island Cares supports programs providing nutritious and easily accessible food to children from food-insecure households at all hours of the day. This food gives kids fuel to thrive in and outside the classroom and parents extra help as they deal with the high cost of their family’s everyday needs. When school lets out for the summer, many of these vital child nutrition programs go on break, too. The good news is that Long Island Cares has a plan to continue providing nutritious food to kids facing hunger all summer long.
Molly, 11, is a good student, an athlete, and an avid camper who loves exploring and learning about the outdoors. Did I mention her dreams of starting a band with her Girl Scout troop? As you can imagine, Molly’s days get pretty busy, especially over the summer, making access to fresh and healthy food a top priority.
“I like having granola bars, yogurt, or fruit between meals,” Molly said. “I can always tell I have more energy on those days, which is especially important if I have softball practice or music lessons at night.”
Thank you for considering a gift today to help children like Molly.
