Job Description:

The Mobile Outreach Veteran Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and carrying out mobile food distributions serving veterans and the community. Responsibilities include scheduling distributions, community outreach, food ordering, packing and preparing food products, loading and unloading delivery vehicles, transporting and distributing food and supplies, maintaining distribution vehicles, and completing related administrative tasks. The position requires operating a box truck and commercial van.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the veteran community and resource partners.
  • Schedule visits and food distributions throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • Select nutritious foods for specific programs, prepare emergency food packages, and monitor grant funding and requirements.
  • Regularly pack, unpack, lift, carry, load, and unload food products, boxes, and supplies onto and off trucks and other delivery vehicles.
  • Transport and deliver food products and supplies to designated distribution sites, satellite locations, and community partners.
  • Set up and break down mobile distribution sites, including moving food products, tables, equipment, and other necessary supplies.
  • Operate box trucks and commercial vans to transport food and supplies throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicles, including regularly cleaning truck interiors, cargo areas, and distribution equipment.
  • Monitor warehouse packing groups on a weekly basis and assist with packing and preparing food for distribution.
  • Perform direct distribution of food and supplies to veterans and other community members.
  • Collect data on intake forms and submit summary reports for monthly progress.
  • Identify opportunities to expand outreach and develop relationships with community partners.
  • Connect neighbors in need with available resources and assistance.
  • Assist with other community outreach programs, events, and services as directed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Mobile Outreach & Community Services Manager.

  • Ability to safely operate commercial delivery vehicles and handle food products and distribution equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to balance physical distribution activities and administrative responsibilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.

Education & Experience:

  • Prior military service and/or demonstrated experience working directly with veterans, military families, and veteran serving community partners. Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Prior food industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Related experience in food distribution, delivery operations, or warehousing preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prior experience operating a box truck and commercial sprinter van.
  • Frequently lift, carry, move, load, and unload food products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Load and unload trucks and vans, including moving products between vehicles, warehouse areas, and distribution sites.
  • Set up, break down, and move equipment and supplies required for mobile distributions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able work outside at community distribution sites
  • Maintain a valid New York State driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and meet applicable DOT medical certification requirements.
