When household budgets are stretched, access to nutritious food can make a meaningful difference. Your generosity helps Long Island Cares provide food and resources to individuals, families and communities across Long Island.
Whether you make a one-time gift or give regularly, your support helps ensure that neighbors can access the food they need.
Long Island Cares’ Board of Directors is matching all gifts, up to $100,000 during Hunger Action Month®.
Volunteers are an essential part of a strong community. From helping sort and distribute food to supporting programs and community events, your time will have a direct impact on your neighbors.
Whether you have a few hours to give or want to volunteer on a regular basis, there’s an opportunity to get involved.
Food insecurity affects communities in many ways, and creating lasting change takes more than food alone. Advocacy helps raise awareness of key issues, elevates the needs of our neighbors, and encourages action that strengthens access to nutritious food.
Long Island Cares is standing with Feeding America in calling for a two-year delay for the federal cost-shift for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). We are asking our federal representatives to include a two-year delay of the cost shift in the upcoming Farm Bill vote or any other legislative vehicle. A delay will give states time to prepare and help protect access to the nutrition assistance that millions of families rely on. Without it, vulnerable households could face reduced benefits or loss of assistance, while food banks could be forced to absorb even greater demand.

Food is more than a meal. Consistent access to nutritious food supports health, well-being and the ability for individuals and families to thrive.
The rising cost of essentials like groceries and energy continue to put pressure on household budgets. For many people, that can make it harder to afford the food they need.
That’s why community action matters. When donors, volunteers, advocates, farmers and community partners come together, we can strengthen the network of support that helps make nutritious food more accessible.
