Food Shouldn’t Be An Impossible Choice
More and more hardworking Long Islanders are left to choose between paying their bills… or buying food for their family. It only takes one crisis to put a family at risk.
Meet Lamont.
Lamont worked hard at a cable company to give his family a good life. They had everything — a house, cars, even boats — until a work accident changed everything. A cable pierced his eye, leaving him unable to work.
After the accident, Lamont received workman’s compensation, but it wasn’t enough to feed his family. Eventually, his wife convinced him to go to a local food pantry with her. He feared judgment, but the kindness he received changed his life.
Soon, Lamont started volunteering at the pantry and then got a job there. He is now in charge of a program that works with families to break the cycle of poverty.
