capital_one-logo-50477d4771-seeklogo_comCapital One has awarded Long Island Cares, Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank with a $200,000 grant to support the regional food bank’s Mobile Children’s Breakfast Food Trucks. In making the announcement, Jessa Thomas, Community Affairs Officer for Capital One stated, “It’s a privilege to be able to provide community support for Long Island Cares’ Mobile Children’s Breakfast Food Truck Program.  At Capital One, we believe strongly in building the communities where we live and work. We know that Long Island Cares shares our passion and we are honored to present this contribution to them.  Their work in the community is an inspiration.”

Since launching their two Mobile Children’s Breakfast Food Trucks in April, Long Island Cares has provided a healthy breakfast to nearly 7,000 children during times when school is closed. “Our food trucks are a first-of-its-kind program among the nation’s food banks to provide children that are food insecure with a healthy, grab-n-go breakfast when they are most in need,” said Dr. Jessica Rosati, Chief Program Officer for Long Island Cares.  “The additional funding from Capital One will support food purchases and other operational costs in order to keep the food trucks on the road for a long time to come and we are extremely grateful to Capital One for their very generous support of our work,” said Robin Amato, Long Island Cares’ Chief Development Officer.

The Mobile Children’s Breakfast Food Trucks work collaboratively with several of Long Island Cares’ member agencies that are located in high-needs communities. The trucks provide a nutritious, ready-to-eat breakfast consisting of cereal, low-fat milk, yogurt, fresh juices, snack bar and fresh fruit.  For more information about this program or others provided by Long Island Cares visit www.licares.org.
