Veterans Project
Giving Back to our Veterans
Returning soldiers and their families face unique challenges transitioning from the front lines to civilian life. Long Island Cares is here to help veterans in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, addressing financial hardships and food insecurity during this crucial period with the Veterans Project.
Long Island Cares proudly provides veteran programs ranging from food assistance and job help to personalized referral services. Military Appreciation Tuesdays
- Weekly sessions at Long Island Cares First Stop Food Pantries.
- Provides veterans and families with essential items like food, personal care products, household supplies, and more.
- Offers veteran-specific benefit information.
Information & Referral Services
- Dedicated referral program connecting veterans to essential benefits and services.
- Leverages a network of veteran service organizations.
- Advocates for veterans’ needs and connections.
Mobile Pantry
- All clients must be assessed for eligibility.
- Program recipients receive bi-weekly deliveries of nutritious foods.
Veterans Outreach
- Collaborations with veteran service agencies and VA hospitals.
- Participation in events like Veteran Stand Downs.
- Extending services to counseling, homeless outreach, and emergency assistance.
VetsWork
- Equips veterans with job skills.
- Covers resume writing, job search, and real workplace experience.
- Volunteering and training opportunities.
