Hunger 101: A Hands-On Hunger Education Program

Learn About Hunger, Food Insecurity, and Community Resources

Hunger 101 is an engaging educational program designed to help students explore the realities of food insecurity and the vital role food banks play in local communities. Through an interactive, facilitator-led activity, participants take on the role of a fictional family navigating everyday challenges like paying bills, accessing healthcare, and affording extracurricular activities—all while facing limited resources.

What Students Will Learn:

The root causes of hunger and food insecurity

  • How poverty and limited access to resources impact families
  • The physical and emotional effects of food insecurity
  • The services food banks provide to support those in need

Program Highlights:

  • 1-hour session offered in-person or virtually
  • Ideal for school groups, clubs, or youth organizations
  • Designed for groups of 10–30 participants
  • Students will earn 1 hour of community service credit
