🌟 SHAC: Student Hunger Advocacy Coalition

Empowering the Next Generation of Hunger Relief Leaders

The Student Hunger Advocacy Coalition (SHAC) is Long Island Cares’ flagship youth engagement initiative, designed to inspire and activate the next generation of volunteers, advocates, and change-makers.

SHAC connects students ages 6 to 19 with unique opportunities to explore the root causes and consequences of food insecurity through hands-on volunteerism, youth-focused education, and real-world impact.

By joining SHAC, students gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by more than 300,000 Long Islanders who receive assistance through our network of human service agencies.

💡 What SHAC Offers:

  • Age-appropriate volunteer opportunities
  • Educational sessions focused on hunger, poverty, and community service
  • Leadership development through service
  • A chance for youth to discover their own talents and use them to uplift their communities

Educational sessions are available by request and can be tailored for schools, clubs, or youth organizations.
