WALK 97.5 FM has chalked up another successful year partnering with King Kullen supermarkets to host its annual “Thanks for Giving Food Drive” to support Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin Food Bank. The annual food drive that concluded on November 17th collected a total of 15,790 pounds of food including dozens of frozen turkeys from its listeners to help feed the hungry on Long Island at holiday time.
“The WALK 97.5 FM Thanks for Giving Food Drive is one of our most successful community food drives and the energy and community spirit that each of the on-air personalities brings to the event adds to the success, especially during the live broadcast this year from King Kullen in Patchogue,” said Paule Pachter, CEO of Long Island Cares. “The food that was collected will enable the regional food bank to provide 12,531 meals for Long Islanders in need.” “The Thanks for Giving food drive has been a celebrated tradition with WALK 97.5 FM”, says Connoisseur Media Long Island/WALK 97.5 FM General Manager, Jim Condron. “Our ability to use the reach and power of our station, and our social channels, to benefit the community of people with food insecurity is something we look forward to every year. We are committed to fighting hunger on Long Island.”
Long Island Cares supports 588 community-based member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, day care centers, veterans programs and others by annually delivering 7 million pounds of food and other products to help more than 300,000 Long Islanders who experience domestic hunger and high food insecurity every day. “The partnership between WALK 97.5 FM, King Kullen and Long Island Cares through the Thanks for Giving Food Drive not only results in thousands of pounds of food being donated to help people in need, it also raises awareness about the issue of hunger and food insecurity within our local communities, said William Gonyou, Food Drive and Community Event Manager at Long Island Cares.
