TD Charitable Foundation Awards $10,000 to Long Island Cares' Weekend Food Program

September 9, 2015

HAUPPAUGE – The TD Charitable Foundation, funded by TD Bank, has awarded Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank a $10,000 grant to support its Pack It Up for Kids Weekend Food Program.
The Pack It Up for Kids Program was TDCharitableFoundationLogodeveloped to help alleviate children’s hunger when other sources of meals are not available, especially on weekends. Most if not all of the children served by the program rely on free or reduced price school meals.  Pack It Up for Kids provides non-perishable, easy-to-prepare, nutritious food for children when school is not in session. Packs are discreetly distributed and placed in the child’s own backpack or school bag.
“Around the region, you’ll find many teachers who can tell you about a student who came to school on Monday, not reluctant to start the school week but eager to get back to school after going through Friday evening, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday without a square meal – or knowledge of a source for their next meal,” explains Kerry Tooker, Child Nutrition Program Specialist for Long Island Cares. “The Pack It Up for Kids food packs offer these children the comforting knowledge that they will have enough food for the weekend, and we’re grateful to TD for their contribution to this important program.”
“We are proud to support organizations like Long Island Cares, which positively
affect communities where our customers and employees live and work,” said Lisa Holland, Market President for Suburban New York and Long island. “This year, TD is celebrating its sixteenth year on Long Island and we are committed to enriching our communities as we  continue to grow and build the better bank throughout New York.”
