Long Island Cares to Receive $100,000 Grant from Stop & Shop’s “Our Family Foundation” to Support Kids Café Program

March 4, 2019

Long Island Cares has been awarded a generous grant of $100,000 from “Our Family Foundation,” the giving arm of Stop & Shop supermarkets, which are operated by Ahold USA.  The grant, part of an initiative to fight child hunger across Ahold USA’s market areas, will help support Long Island Cares’ Kids Café After School Food and Mentoring Program.
Established in 2002, Long Island Cares’ Kids Cafe program provides snacks to children who have no safe after-school environment and who have limited access to food and little, if any, appropriate space to do homework or play.  The goal of Ahold USA’s “Feed More Children” initiative is to get healthy meals to more hungry children. The grant will enable Long Island Cares to convert its Kids Café after school “snack” programs to programs that serve nutritious “meals.”
Long Island Cares oversees 19 Kids Cafés, which are part of a nationwide program supported by Feeding America.  Long Island Cares also works closely with several community-based Boys and Girls Clubs to provide Kids Café sites.
