CVS STORES TO SPONSOR FOOD DRIVES TO SUPPORT LONG ISLAND CARES, THE HARRY CHAPIN FOOD BANK

HAUPPAUGE, NY – Tuesday, October 25, 2016 – Just in time for the holiday season when people often think about helping their neighbors in need, CVS stores on Long Island are hosting a food drive at 34 store locations to support Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin Food Bank. CVS customers can donate non-perishable food, personal care items, household supplies, baby products and pet food to help the more than 316,000 Long Islanders who struggle with food insecurity and domestic hunger. The food drive will conclude on November 20^th in time for the regional food bank to deliver holiday meals and food to their 577 community-based member agencies for Thanksgiving.
“Although hunger is an everyday occurrence for many individuals and families on Long Island, people usually think about helping those in need at holiday time,” said William Gonyou, Community Events and Food Drive Manager at Long Island Cares, Inc.
“We’re very pleased that CVS stores are working with the regional food bank by hosting food drives at the busiest time of the year for our member agencies including hundreds of local food pantries that Long Island Cares supports. It’s very gratifying when the local business community and large corporations like CVS collaborate with our organization to make a difference for people in need.”
