It might be the corniest event to hit Long Island, but we’re not complaining.
CANstruction Long Island is a national build and design fundraiser that calls upon architectural, engineering, design, and construction industries to fight hunger. Employees and students of these industries are encouraged to join a team and sculpt a cool art piece.
Teams are responsible for obtaining all their own cans/non-perishables and are encouraged to do this by holding food drives and asking food corporations for donations. Once a team has all its goods, they attend the buildout on Wednesday, October 25.
Teams have 12 hours to construct your masterpiece and then the exhibit is open to the public. The exhibit is held in the beautiful lobby of the RXR Plaza in Uniondale from October 26-November 12. After that, the sculptures are taken apart and the donated cans are sent to local food banks, one of which is Long Island Cares. Long Island Cares is grateful to be a part of this creative fundraiser and we can’t wait to see the creativity this year’s contest will hold.
