Selmer's Petland for news
Selmer’s Pet Land located at 125 East Jericho Turnpike in South Huntington has been partnering with Long Island Cares Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank by making regular donations of pet food to help struggling families access pet food through Long Island Cares’ satellite center in Huntington Station.  Selmer’s Pet Land is a local,  family owned pet shop and pet supply retailer that has been serving the community since 1939.  Owner Al Selmer has been donating hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food to Long Island Cares’ Humanitarian Center in Huntington Station, to support the organizations’ Baxter’s Pet Pantry.  Baxter’s provides free pet food to families in need, to avoid having them place their pets in animal shelters.  Pet food can be quite expensive for people with limited incomes.
Long Island Cares CEO Paule Pachter and Idalia Boczek, Manager of the Humanitarian Center recently visited Selmer’s Pet Land to personally thank Al Selmer and his staff for their continued support.  “Selmer’s Pet Land is a unique pet shop and the generosity of the Selmer Family and their staff has resulted in frequent donations of quality pet food that we’ve been able to provide to pets and families in need,” said Pachter.  “One of the most meaningful aspects of our satellite centers in Freeport, Lindenhurst and Huntington Station has been the support that we’ve received from the local communities who volunteer and support our efforts on an ongoing basis.  Selmer’s Pet Land is a great partner of Baxter’s Pet Pantry and their generosity has encouraged others to get involved in the work of the regional food bank.  We’ve been contacted by local veterinarians and other pet supply retailers interested in following Al Selmer’s example and we are extremely grateful for all of the support we’re able to pass along to the many families that visit our satellite locations. “
