Veteran Outreach Coordinator

Reports to:   Chief Government Affairs Officer (CGAO)


Position Summary: 

This position is responsible for coordinating the regional food bank’s veteran outreach efforts, which includes deploying the Veterans Project Mobile Outreach Unit to strategic veteran distributions (i.e. Stand Downs) and disseminating information at various community events.  This person will also be charged with updating and developing existing veteran outreach materials.  Care coordination responsibilities include making and tracking internal and external referrals as well as conducting home visits on an as needed basis.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ordering food and supplies for veteran distributions.
  • Scheduling distributions throughout various locations in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • Distributing food/supplies at various veteran events. This includes loading/unloading vehicles and setting up tables/tents.
  • Managing individual interventions for 20-25 veterans, which includes expertise in assessing health and human service needs and maintaining accurate and timely client records.
  • Public speaking (as needed) at various veteran outreach events.
  • Developing memoranda/letters related to issues impacting Long Island’s diverse veteran population.
  • Compiling statistical data as needed for donors and CGAO.
  • Maintaining and developing collaborative partnerships with key players in veteran services.
  • Managing volunteers as needed.
  • Performing other veteran outreach duties as assigned by the Chief Government Affairs Officer.



The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; be able to lift packages greater than 30 lbs; have intermediate computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, and possess excellent communication, written, and organizational skills.  A clean NYS DMV record and a background check are required for this position.  Veteran status is strongly preferred but not required.
