Job Summary:

The Program Associate is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the program center and the daily coordination of Long Island Cares and Community Outreach programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform needs assessment related to food necessity, emergency relief, and other circumstances requiring the assistance of the food bank.
  • Perform various clerical duties, e.g., correspondence, scheduling, maintaining program records, updating program materials, typing, filing, etc.
  • Preparation of acknowledgments for outreach programs to include but not limited to, community events, self-sufficiency seminars, food, and fund drives.
  • Prepare food pantry weekly orders based on available products from the Long Island Cares’ warehouse.
  • Record and track client visits and pantry usage.
  • Maintain community resource lists/referrals utilized in the pantry.
  • Assist the Program Center Coordinator with preparing a monthly report on the program center’s progress.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Programs and the Director of Satellite Services.
  • Meeting clients’ needs will include operating the program center and supporting Programs on an occasional evening or weekend.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Relative work experience in office operations, non-for-profit, or human services preferred
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Legally authorized to work.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
