Job Summary:

  • The Government Relations & Advocacy Manager will play an integral role in advocacy, policy research, and grassroots mobilization. This position will also assist in securing the funding and resources needed to maintain and expand our innovative government advocacy and veteran outreach efforts

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and develop collaborative partnerships with key players in government on Long Island.
  • Develop advocacy writings, such as position papers, testimony, and letters; and aid in broader political communications functions (i.e., emails, phone calls, social media, etc.).
  • Represent the food bank at appropriate legislative public hearings and meetings as well as by sitting on appropriate committees and councils. This includes public speaking as needed.
  • Develop grant proposals, complete spending requisitions, and report on grant expenditures.
  • Mobilize internal and external stakeholders to amplify our messaging.
    Assist the Vice President for Government Relations & Advocacy as necessary.

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s’ degree or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrate ability to persuade and collaborate with diverse partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Possess superior communication skills (oral, written and listening).
  • A deep appreciation for and ability to articulate the Agencies mission.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s’ degree or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Relative work experience in office operations, non-for-profit, or human services preferred
  • Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Some travel is required.

Salary Range:

  • $55,000-$65,000
