Development Associate

Position Summary:Contributes to the execution and development of external donor communication for the Development department; implementation and coordination of all the constituent data management. Responsibilities include updating database, pulling mailing lists, and meeting department reporting needs to ensure the right constituents receive engagement and stewardship materials for effective relationship building. All Development staff are expected to assist with execution of the annual development plan to support meeting the annual organizational budget.


  • Process donations, generate and track tax-receipts and acknowledgement letters and transmit all required data and backup material to the Accounting/Finance Department.
  • Maintains Constituent Relationship Management database and updates all relevant donor information.
  • Responds to inquiries and maintains relationships with donors regarding gift history and acknowledgements.
  • Support tracking and metrics of various communication activities for analysis and review. a
  • Generates DPO reports as necessary. Assist with creation and distribution of monthly activity reports.
  • Act as secondary database expert on all department databases and online tools (i.e., DPO, IWave, DonorScape, HungerNet, etc.)
  • Assist with donor identification, prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship as appropriate.
  • Manage mail and shipping of LIC Development/Communications materials including stewardship/purchases/gift items to donors.
  • Assist Chief Development & Communications officer as necessary.
  • Assists with special and third-party events as assigned.
  • Attends events and meetings on behalf of LIC as assigned.
  • Always aware of safety rules and procedures, ensuring that the functions of this job are done in the safest possible manner and encourages co-workers to do likewise.


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in DPO or other CRM databases
  • High School Diploma/GED and two years of professional work experience or a
  • BS/BA in English, Communications, Public Relations, or related field
  • Strong organizational, time management and computer skills.
  • Possess superior communication skills (oral, written, and listening).
  • Working weekends, evenings, and early mornings will be required when needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
  • Lift 25 pounds, exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally
  • Drive and/or travel
  • Visual Acuity: Near acuity and accommodation are required for ability to see and read text and copy of written materials for publishing and to read computer screen.
  • Hearing Ability: Ability to interact with staff, public in an informal way or formal way during events or public speaking.
