    How Will 2018 Federal Budget Cuts Affect Families In Suffolk County?

    On October 26, the house passed a budget blueprint that clears the path for tax reform. The House of Representatives adopted the Senate’s version of the budget which contained $5.1 trillion in cuts (instead of $5.8 trillion that had been in the House budget.) This cleared the way for adoption of a bill later in November that may restructure the US tax code. All five Long Island members of Congress voted against the budget bill.

    Following the passing of this tax reform, the Welfare to Work commission held a public hearing to discuss how this would affect families on Long Island. The following document breaks down how proposed budget cuts will affect food, housing, education, and health security in Suffolk County.
