Long Island Cares to Expand Children’s Breakfast Food Truck Program
Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank is proud to announce the expansion of their Mobile Breakfast Food Truck program. The second-of-its-kind Mobile Breakfast Food Truck will travel throughout Suffolk County to reach some of the 70,000 children in need and provide them with cold cereals, low fat milk, fresh fruit and healthy snacks at times when schools are closed and community resources may not be available.
The regional food bank’s first Children’s Breakfast Food Truck was introduced in August 2015, and has already provided nutritious grab-n-go breakfasts to over 2,400 children, in collaboration with dozens of contract member agencies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. With the addition of this truck, Long Island Cares is able to designate a specially designed truck to serve each of Long Island’s counties, in an ongoing effort to combat childhood hunger and food insecurity.
