We are Long Island’s First Food Bank and one of the
region's most comprehensive hunger action organizations. We are here
to serve individuals and families in need, and much of our success is due to
the support we receive from people like you.
Founded in 1980 by the late singer, songwriter and social
activist,
Harry Chapin, our organization
provides nutritional food and support services for a network of more than
540 community-based
member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency
shelters, child care programs, disability organizations, veterans services
and more. While the annual distribution of over 6 million pounds of
nutritious food is the heart of Long Island Cares’ operations, we function
as more than just a
food bank.
Long Island Cares provides a broad array of
programs including food drives, hunger education, job training, kids
cafes, mobile outreach vans, new paths to achievement, school tools, and
food pantries. As you navigate your way through our website you will
have numerous opportunities to learn more
about our organization and its
mission, about
hunger on Long Island, and how you
can help us in our
fight against hunger. If you
need additional information, please
contact us.
