When she was a young artist first making her way in the music industry, Lindenhurst native Pat Benatar had a chance encounter with the late Harry Chapin. As she tells it during her 1987 Carnegie Hall concert introduction, Harry Chapin was the one that invited her to get involved in one of the plays he was writing for the Performing Arts Center in Huntington. And that started a special friendship between the legendary female rocker and Chapin. Benatar was one of several performers paying tribute to Chapin at Carnegie Hall at a 1987 concert along with Bruce Springsteen, Judy Collins, Richie Havens and others. Now, she joins Springsteen and Collins as a supporter of Long Island Cares, Inc. which was founded by Harry Chapin in 1980 by chairing the organization's Endowment Campaign. 

"Pat Benatar's name will certainly add a great deal of influence to our Endowment Campaign among Long Islanders and others," said Paule Pachter, Executive Director. "She is one of the most recognizable female Rock artists in history and a multiple industry award winner.  Her songs are classics and we are honored that she has chosen to chair this campaign that will hopefully secure and enhance the future of Long Island Cares, Inc. - The Harry Chapin Food Bank," explained Pachter. 

 

The Long Island Cares Endowment Campaign will be implemented later this Fall along with a special appeal from Pat Benatar to perspective donors.
