Food Bank, will host their first "
Unsung Hero
Awards Luncheon" on Thursday November 12, 2009 at
the Cresthollow Country Club in
Woodbury. Harry's daughter,
singer/songwriter
Jen Chapin
with serve as Mistress of Ceremonies and renowned
singer/songwriter Judy Collins will present the
Keynote Address. Ms. Collins will speak
about: The Artist as Activist.
The
Unsung Hero Award will be given to eight very
deserving companies and individuals who have aided
Long Island Cares in their mission to end hunger
on Long Island through their generous donation of
time, talent and resources. The Honorees are
Castle Landscaping (Huntington
Station);
Dircks Associates (St.
James);
Jim & Mona Lennon
(Flanders);
Dan Lunde, and
Pine Barrens Printing (West
Hampton Beach). Nine year old
TimmyHees (Babylon) will receive
the "Hunger Hero" Award.
The Luncheon
will serve as a major fundraiser in which all
proceeds help Long Island Cares provide the food
and services necessary to fight hunger on Long
Island.
Last year, Long Island Cares
distributed over 5.5 million pounds of emergency
food to over 540 agencies throughout Nassau and
Suffolk counties, including soup kitchens, food
pantries, homeless shelters, senior nutrition
sites and day care centers throughout Long Island.
