BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "Working On A
Dream" AUCTION RAISES $80,000 DURING MAY 4th
NASSAU COLISEUM CONCERT
After a
frenzied morning of up-to-the-deadline bidding by
two ardent Bruce Springsteen fans on one VIP
four-pack of concert tickets, Bruce
Springsteen generously agreed to add a second
package and both fans ended up
winners! Each of the anonymous fans
generously paid $20,000 for the special ticket
package and a chance to personally meet "the Boss"
after the concert held May 4th at the Nassau
Coliseum. The winners also enjoyed dinner
and round-trip limousine transportation,
courtesy of the Long Island Marriott Hotel and
Ultimate Class Limousines. The
big winner, however, was Long Island Cares, - The
Harry Chapin Food Bank who not only received the
$40,000 auction proceeds but an additional
$40,000 match made by Bruce Springsteen himself!
Director of Development Robin
Amato was surprised by the intensity of the
bidding. "I had no idea how devoted Bruce
Springsteen's fans really are and Mr.
Springsteen's match was really the icing on the
cake," she said. "It was a very exciting
morning, with bids coming on-line and over the
phone . . . kind of like Sotheby's meets
Ticketmaster. It was a lot of
fun!" Executive Director Paule
Pachter noted that this is the third year in a row
that Bruce Springsteen has donated tickets to
support Long Island Cares and to help raise
money. "Bruce Springsteen has always been
generous to us but he really stepped it up this
year by offering to meet the ticket winners.
We really appreciate his commitment to fighting
hunger and recognizing Long Island Cares'
efforts."
