As
part of Hunger Action Month and in response to the
significant surge in demand for emergency food
assistance over the past year, Macy's conducted
their first Come Together
Campaign and their Annual Shop for A
Cause program which together resulted in
donations totaling almost $29,000 for Long Island
Cares.
The
Come
Together Campaign encouraged consumers to host
special dinners in their homes with guests
donating to their local food bank in lieu of
bringing the traditional hostess gift. Macy's
matched dollar for dollar all donations made. In
addition, Macy's hosted its Fourth Annual Shop For
A Cause Day providing discount shopping passes for
charities to sell, with 100% of the sales proceeds
going to the specific organization.
"We
were extremely excited to partner with Macy's on
these two campaigns and are grateful to them and
their loyal customers for their commitment to
helping the hungry on Long Island," said Robin
Amato, Director of Development and Communications
of Long Island Cares. "No one
should ever go hungry and it is because of
generous and engaged corporate donors like Macy's
that we are able to support the 287,000 Long
Islanders who are in need."
