Long Island Cares, Inc.- The Harry
Chapin Food Bank was the beneficiary of a generous
grant in the amount of $7,029 and a total of 1,700
lbs of food from BJ's Wholesale Clubs Charitable
Foundation as a result of their Twenty-Fifth
Anniversary 25-Ton Food Donation Challenge. BJ's
challenged the communities in which it operates to
collect 25 tons of groceries to help feed local
families in need. In turn
BJ's made a financial donation to food banks
across the country.
"We are grateful that BJ's Wholesale Club
used its 25th anniversary as an
opportunity to provide meals for families in
need," said Robin Amato, Director of Dovelopment
and Communications for Long Island Cares. "This
last year has been particularly challenging with
the need for food assistance rising by 20%. The
donated food along with their generous monetary
donation will provide over 8,000 meals to families
on Long Island."
