HOW YOU
CAN HELP US
You can make a difference. Long Island Cares relies on the generosity of individuals and corporations to help fulfill our mission. There are many opportunities for you to help make a difference in the lives of fellow Long Islanders. Help us increase the amount of food we distribute . . . increase the nutritional quality of that food . . . assist more families in becoming self-sufficient . . . and speak for those whose voices are silent because they are too young or too hungry and weak to speak. Please help in any way you can. It could be as simple as donating your old car! Approximately 89% of our expenses go to support our programs; only 11% of our costs go to fundraising and administration. Our financial information is available on GuideStar, the national database of U.S. charitable organizations. Type our name or EIN (11-2524512) in their Quick Search field. Better yet, click the GuideStar logo to the left; this will take you directly to our financial information page. Using GuideStar is free, but you are asked to sign up to access any information beyond a brief summary. Contributions of money or property made to a "qualified organization" (the Internal Revenue Service term for charities like Long Island Cares) are generally tax-deductible. We provide IRS Publication 526 - Charitable Contributions for information, but donors are encouraged to consult a tax accountant or use tax preparation software to be sure of the deductibility of their donations. This is our Help Table. As you can see, we need all sorts of help! If you send an e-mail, please include your name, address, and telephone number. If the good old-fashioned postal service is more your style, then please send your letter to the address at the bottom of this page. Thank you so much for your help.
